The Center

The Maloka

Nihue Rao’s maloka is a beautiful building constructed in traditional Shipibo style. It can hold up to 30 people, including shamans, staff, and participants.
All guests sit on an individual mat in circle so everyone faces each other and the Maestros. Each guest will receive a personal song (called an Icaro) to provide spiritual and energetic healing and open them to the medicinal world of Ayahuasca.

Group Retreats

Nihue Rao has the capacity to facilitate groups at the center. This can be tour groups, groups of friends, family, or shamanic students who want to travel together and share the experience and spiritual healing at Nihue Rao.

Should you be interested in leading a group at Nihue Rao, we offer a special offer in accordance with the size of the group. Please inquire for more information.

At Night

The sun sets and the energies settle at Nihue Rao in preparation for ceremony. Guests begin to arrive at the maloka around 7:30 p.m., being mindful to meditate and focus on their intentions for the night. At 8 p.m. the medicine is served, and guests experience the Shipibo tradition of ayahuasca by opening themselves to a powerful healing and life-changing experience.

Shamanic Visions

During an Ayahuasca ceremony many messages from the spiritual world can arrive in the form of internal and external visions. Maestro Amaringo can help the pasajero understand and translate the meaning of any visions experienced during the Integration meetings.

Lounge

The center has a lounge accessible for guests 24 hours a day. It’s a comfy space with couches, a hammock, electrical outputs, and Wi-Fi. It can be a nice space to hang out, socialize and meet new friends, read a book from the small library, or play a game.

Guests are free to wander about the center, visit the botanical garden, and relax in the covered porch or several small outdoor pagodas and seating areas. Guests are asked to avoid walking down paths leading to the long term dieters’ tambos to respect their isolation.

GYM

We have a gym with weights, yoga mats, and other exercise equipment, available for use any time.

Dining Room

The dining room is a collective area where a buffet of Ayahuasca diet-friendly food is prepared by our kitchen staff. Come enjoy breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m., lunch from 12 to 2 p.m., and dinner from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Depending on the season and local availability, you can expect to find grilled chicken, fish from the Amazon river such as boquechico and doncella, rice, grilled green plantain, potatoes, quinoa, lentils, green peas, root vegetables, pastas. Oatmeal and hot tea is available all-hours and apples and other fruits are available while supplies last. All of our water is filtered and safe to drink, we ask you to please bring a water bottle with you.

Traditional Tambos

We have 9 isolated bungalows, called tambos, for long-term dieters. They are a wooden construction with walls of mosquito netting to enhance the jungle experience. Each tambo is equipped simply with a bed, desk and hammock, and are isolated amongst the jungle on the property of Nihue Rao.

Most tambos are located 20 to 40 meters away from the main hub of the center within easy walking distance of the ceremonial maloka and bathrooms, but with enough distance from the main center activity. This allows for isolation, immersion, and optimum concentration to enhance the dieting process. All bedding and towels are provided, with the option to have meals delivered to further support isolation.

Medicine House

Our staff prepares our ayahuasca, plant remedies, flower baths, vapor baths, and vomitivo in a medicine house outside the Ceremonial Maloka. Guests who are dieting a plant come to take their plant remedies once a day, Monday through Saturday, often at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m.

Shipibo Shamanic Shops

Ricardo, Miguel, and Felacio alongside their family members each have shops at the center where they create and sell exquisite and traditional Shipibo artisanal goods, including clothing, visionary embroideries, jewelry, pipes and accessories.
